Elton John will be performing in Kalamazoo, Michigan on March 21, it was
announced this morning. Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Saturday, February 11.

Most tickets will be $139, with behind the stage tickets $39 and opposite end
tickets $79. Good luck getting tickets at those prices. I expect there will
be a lot of people who line up Friday night that will be disappointed at 10:06
a.m. on Saturday.

Read what Trent Reznor wrote about ticket scalping:

http://forum.nin.com/bb/read.php?59,548515

(Secretary/90017) First post of 2012:

First post of 2012:

'Soul Train' Host Don Cornelius Dead Of Suicide

By Associated Press | Stop The Presses! - 35 minutes ago

http://music.yahoo.com/blogs/stop-the-presses/soul-train-don-cornelius-dead-75-
apparent-suicide-152756913.html

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Don Cornelius, creator of the long-running TV dance show
"Soul Train," shot himself to death Wednesday morning at his Los Angeles home,
police said. He was 75.

Officers responding to a report of a shooting found Cornelius at his Mulholland
Drive home at around 4 a.m., police said. He was pronounced dead of a
self-inflicted gunshot wound at 4:56 a.m. at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, said
Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter.

"Soul Train" began in 1970 in Chicago on WCIU-TV as a local program and aired
nationally from 1971 to 2006.

It introduced television audiences to such legendary artists as Aretha
Franklin, Marvin Gaye and Barry White and brought the best R&B, soul and later
hip-hop acts to TV and had teenagers dance to them. It was one of the first
shows to showcase African-Americans prominently, although the dance group was
racially mixed. Cornelius was the first host and executive producer.

"There was not programming that targeted any particular ethnicity," he said in
2006, then added: "I'm trying to use euphemisms here, trying to avoid saying
there was no television for black folks, which they knew was for them."

Cornelius, who was inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame in
1995 and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, said in 2006 he remained
grateful to the musicians who made "Soul Train" the destination for the best
and latest in black music.

"I figured as long as the music stayed hot and important and good, that there
would always be a reason for 'Soul Train,'" Cornelius said.

The series spawned a franchise that includes the Soul Train Music Awards, the
Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards and the Soul Train Christmas Starfest.

Cornelius stepped down as "Soul Train" host in 1993.

In his later years, Cornelius had a troubled marriage. In 2009, he was
sentenced to three years' probation after pleading no contest to misdemeanor
spousal battery. In his divorce case that year, he also mentioned having
significant health issues.

I heard a rock version of "Little Drummer Boy" on the radio today. No artist's
name given. Has a drum machine-type of thing for the, well, drum parts but the
rest is straight up electric guitar rock. Mainstream rock sounding, not Trans-
Siberian Orchestra stuff. Male vocal, faithful to the traditional version save
the modern instruments.
The radio station is completely automated and that song is missing from their
playlist of the past couple hours so I have no idea how to go about identifying
who sings it.

Do you still have the packaging for the knock-off KISS mask? I'm interested in
the exact name used for it.

For example, here are some knock-off names:

"Eight Is Too Much Adult Wig" - for Kate Gosselin

"Psycho Clown" - for Heath Ledger's Joker

"Cyber Man" - for Neo (Thomas A.

My wife hates when I play that game. She'll mention some movie or song like
it's recent and I'll say "honey, when that song was brand new, the movie 'Help'
was about as old as it is now". She will then make a face at me like I have
wounded someone she loves.

That kind of stuff boggles my mind. I first got really into music in 1986.
Songs like "Addicted to Love", "Rock Me Amadeus" and "West End Girls" were
popular. 25 years before that it was "really old songs" like "Blue Moon" and
"Travelin' Man".

I am not that old, damn it! 25 years ago, wow...

25 years ago today Slayer's Reign in Blood was released. Love/hate at will.

"Founding Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman stepped onstage with his band at
Saturday's Big 4 concert in Indio, California, marking the first time he has
played with Slayer since October 2010. In January, Hanneman contracted
necrotizing fasciitis, likely caused by a spider bite, and has been undergoing
surgeries, skin grafts and intense rehab ever since.

Hanneman surprised the crowd of 50,000 when he walked out onto the stage,
unannounced, and played the two-song encore, "South of Heaven" and "Angel of
Death."

Necrotizing fasciitis. That's totally fuckin' metal. Check that arm scar. Ouch.
http://www.guitarworld.com/slayers-jeff-hanneman-makes-triumphant-return-big-4-
festival

Thus far, I have Metalium's Smoke on the Water and 3rd Strike's Paranoid. I'd
like a better metal cover of House of the Rising Sun, if possible, and anything
else as well. Thanks.
