  The goal was to copy the executable file you downloaded to a easy to
  remember name (bbs) and a location that would be accessible anywhere
  (i.e. in your "path", so no matter where you were, you could run it).
  Since your mac doesn't have /usr/local/bin, putting it there won't
  achieve the second goal, so it is rather pointless (we could instruct
  you on how to modify your path, but i'm not sure that's worth it).
  Sounds like /usr/bin isn't a great idea either.
  ./bbs is probably just fine in your current user directory, so if
  you're ok  with that, leave it there.

throw that thing into /usr/bin rather than worry about changing your path.  (by
"path" here I mean $PATH, the variable which the terminal uses to decide where
to look for the commands you type.)

directory.  Try this:

doesn't allow it.  But I can tell you what's there.  This is after cd-ing to

problem seems to be in copying it using cp.  When you say /usr/local etc you
mean literally exactly that wording?  (Not, for example, changing usr to my
name or something?)  I can't cd to /usr/local either, although I can navigate
to that folder by using cd ..

It's not a .dmg at all.  It's the binary itself.

OK, here's what you do.  Assuming it downloaded to your Downloads folder, you
open up a Terminal and do:

cp Downloads/mac_os_10.6-2.3.8.dmg.bin /usr/local/bin/bbs

chmod +x /usr/local/bin/bbs

after that you can run "bbs" in the terminal.

website (sorry struggling with copy/paste at the moment) but it just says that
the file is installed in /usr/local/bin and that you need to start it via the
terminal window.  I opened a terminal window, but I can't find the file (and

We just got a new modem from our ISP. Worked fine for a couple of days. But

down again doesn't help, but after 20-30 minutes of being idle, suddenly it
finds its internet connection without me having to do anything else.

I called the ISP and they said it sounds like my router neesd to be "reset". I
asked if just unplugging it and replugging it would work and he said it should.
So, it does work...until I shot the computer down again and then I have to
unplug and replug the router.

Am I missing something obvious, like a connection to/from the router that will
make this work properly? Or is it the fault of the new modem? Or is the router
I have (three years old) perhaps not entirely compatible with the new modem?

this, so that people buying the chepest router they can get off the shelf at
best buy might have a shot at knowing what might hurt them.

I had one device I was using as a wireless bridge for my entertainment stand,
and it would work fine, except it woudl drop ACTIVE connectections for a moment
every 20 minutes. This made watching netflix _very_ annoying.  :-)

  What you are describing sounds like a video driver issue or a over heating
  problem. See if there is a new video driver (you're updating your
  machine, yes?). Also make sure your machine is getting good ventilation,

ok, I've been looking through the info and maybe I missed it but I can't find
the information on how to update the Mac client.  I've got the old version
(2.3.8) installed and config'd, but it (obviously) won't open the connection
with the old address in there.  I downloaded the source code for the new one,
but can't seem to figure out how to put the new address code into the old
client..... anyone know how to do this?  When I search for the /usr directory
on my mac I can find it in the unix shell, but not in the GUI even with
invisible files visible.  Therefore I can't locate the client file to open it
and change the code for the address......

persisted for quite a while. I couldnt log in for like 45 minutes with
connection timed out. (i was trying off and on.) I never did get logged in.
Right now im getting occassional lag, and stalls but im not sure that is the
fault of the bbs.

Straight telnet in won't connect.  I've got the tracert run, can't paste it
here in the java telnet.

Ok, I give up.....I normally use R&D client to log on here.  Win Vista box. 
Earlier this morning, I couldn't connect....kept getting the timed out with out
connecting message.  Then suddenly, connection!

About 10-15 minutes ago, I lost the connection.  No internet glitches on this
end.  Still connected to another bbs, still browsing the web, no problems. 
R&D's not connecting again, but I can get on fine via the telnet gateway on
iscabbs.com.  Still browsing the web just fine, still connected to the other
bbs just fine.

Help?

No, it doesn't run Android. It's a "SmartPhone", but it was the kind that was
state of the art maybe two years ago. There aren't many apps avialable for it
through Verizon, if that helps at all.

I downloaded Rove Mobile Admin to my BlackBerry to use to telnet to ISCABBS,
and have no idea what to do now.

I am supposed to enter a server; the port is filled in as 4054.
Connect through HTTPS is unchecked.
I can choose to connect through:
   BlackBerry Enterprise Server (MDS)
   Internet (TCP/IP)
   BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS)
And, if I don't have a Mobile Admin server installed, I need to go to
http://roveit.com/appworld to get a free trial.

Help?!

I haven't installed 'regular' SSH client. Actually it acts as an SSH client,
and is cheaper than the app clients out there. I think it might be better,
although evidentally I haven't tried the unix client method ;-), because it has
a text input window where you can edit, copy/paste etc before you submit text.
