My latest IOS/iPad game addiction is Eufloria.
http://www.eufloria-game.com/

It's a lot of fun. Kind of a cross between galactic colonization and tower
defense. It's got depth and complexity but that's introdeuced gradually so you
don't feel thrown into the deep end.

Definitely recommend if you like the idea of a strategy game with real time
elements that doesn't overwhelm like Starcraft or the like.

not a fan of the link gun, the grip is kinda cramped.
i haven't tried any others, but the problem comes with button mapping, which in
many cases forces you to use 2 hands to hit B and A. I think the ideal setup
would have the nunchuck in the grip using Z as the trigger, with the wiimote in
the barrel area so you can hold it like a shotgun.

Oblivion - Alteration> What can up this skill? I'm not a mage, but I'd like to
be able to not mess with the stupid lock picking game. I mean, I'm getting
better, but it's still annoying. I just save before opening any given lock,
just in case I take a LOT to open it, so I can try again.

I can cast Open Very Easy lock, but I don't encounter those very much.

Feoh>
Yes, my zombies last quite a bit longer than skeletons. I'd really recommend
getting the summon zombie spell, or, if you can afford it (gold, mana, etc.)
the headless zombie is probably even better. I know the latter costs more to
cast and is available from one spell merchant or another.

As far as the summon zombie spell and other summons, I purchased them from a
mage in one of the mage guild halls. I don't recall which right off hand, but
I want to say it was Chorrol. If not there, it was probably Cheydinhal or
Leyawin. Not a lot of mage guild halls so should be easy to find.

I'm level 10 now and also apprentice in armorer. Wouldn't mind picking up the
open average locks spell if you remember where you found it.

Does anyone have any of the "bound armor" type spells? Are they worth a damn?
I assume they're a nice, light alternative to wearing real armor but nearly all
my current armor is magical with some nice properties so I don't see much
reason to buy/use those spells right now unless they add to existing armor.

Boo. Har.

"You can have them." Crap. So I took 'em.

http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd433/Halalah/outrunnersntank.jpg

Op that fixes monitors for me said I could just have a few big games, he was
going to break them up and toss 'em in the dumpster. So I got a Virtua Racing
twin, Outrunners, two San Franciso Rush cabs, and a Cisco Heat (which I didn't
want but took anyway to humor the op). The Rush cabs have the main PCBs gone,
I'm thinking of rigging the 3 pedals into a Steel Battaltion pedal controller
and making a panel to hold the controller, and making a Steel Battalion arcade
machine. The other Rush, maybe cut the top off, make it flat for a big flat
screen tv, then rig the pedals into my logitech wheel, clamp the wheel to it,
and use it for racing games. Or something.

The VR and Outrunners work, need monitors, I have a few spare ones so that's
cool.

Anyone ever see an Outrunners in an arcade? This is the first one I've ever
seen.

Is MP live in the demo? didn't even think to check that...

I was so bummed about the nerfing of sentinel I switched right back to KoA once
I finished the one playthrough.... (and apparently KoA is a LOT bigger game
than I thought- I'm just shy of 50 hours in, and I suspect it'll be another 50
before I'm done)

mainly I figured I'd replay the demo just to test the other classes since I
suspect I'll be switching (and I'm sure it'll let you class-switch even if you
import a save, just like it did ME1->2)
But if MP is enabled I'll have to give that a shot too...

Would a zombie be a significant
upgrade?

Just hit level 12 and made Apprentice in Armorer, also bought the Open Average
Locks spell.
(Knightshade/269271) No comments on the ME3 demo?

No comments on the ME3 demo?

My thoughts-

I only played through once, and as much as possible duped "my" character from
the previous 2 games (Male, Sentinel)

They BADLY nerfed tech armor....like to the point I may think of switching
classes- though I guess I'd need to cycle through the demo as other classes to
see what they did to those and look at the slightly deeper skill trees...
Granted, it was crazy powerful in ME2, but wow they neutered it bigtime from
what I saw... Also the enemy AI seems more aggressive, at least in the second
mission... more pushing forward and flanking from what I saw, which changes
strategy for the player...how much depends how aggressive they are now I
suppose.... possibly this is to encourage the new melee stuff, which I'm not
really a fan of, especially in this game engine... in ME2 though, especially
with tech armor being insane, I could stay in cover and between me, Miranda,
and Mordin (my usual go-to choices) basically humiliate the enemy with powers,
barely ever needing to fire a shot (other than sniping for fun occasionally)...
whereas in the demo I was actively running a bit low on ammo several times
between the aggression and the much weaker tech armor.... The weapon upgrades
are "new" I suppose, but you don't get to actually DO anything with em in the
demo as far as I could tell (I'm guessing there's a station on the Normandy
where you mod weapons). Looking like they replaced the "your class doesn't know
which end of this kind of gun the ammo comes out of" mechanic with a weight
limit? Depending how it plays out this might be a decent improvement...
Grenades are back, but didn't seem super useful... could be I was just out of
practice using em in this game.

Anyone else try it?

CoD: MW3>
Is it free as in "Cinemax free weekend" free or get the game for free? I would
assume the former since it's still a pretty new game. We're going on vacation
this weekend so wouldn't be able to take advantage of a free weekend offer.

Oblivion>
I have two "houses" now... the pirate cave I mentioned earlier is Dunbarrow
Cove and the other is Deepscorn Hollow. I just picked up the bedroom upgrade
for the latter. Also, DH is where I found my hoss little dagger. It's called
"Crimson Eviscerator."

Blade - One Hand - Damage 6 - Charges 660 (55 uses)
Absorb strength 3 pts for 5 secs on strike
Damage health 5 pts on strike
Damage magicka 5 pts on strike
Weakness to poison 5% on strike

I carry around a dwarven short sword as well in case I don't want to burn
through charges on an enemy. Still using the summon zonbie and attacking from
the side with dagger or short sword and that's been working well for me.
Cleared a mine full of goblins last night and made some pretty good bank--about
4k gold.

Is there another place to find these? I'll be
heading into the Arcane Sanctuary soon.. maybe there will be some there? Are
there merchants you can also buy them from?

I have one of the welkynd stones that I had to get for the "Finger on the
Mountain" quest.

Oblivion - Soul Trap> Or the Bow of Dynamo. It does like 10 or 15 shock
damage, and casts soul trap for 3 seconds. It's great.

Question, do souls stack in a soul stone. Ie: I have a greater soul stone. I
kill a rat, which is a petty soul. Is that soul stone done? Or can I kill
like 5/10 rats (however many it would take) and fill it up?

Miser> On the barrels remembering things...yeah, they did...until I didn't come
back to them for about a 'week or two' in game since a quest took me to another
city and I get distracted en route to anything by caves/forts/etc. Maybe it
was three weeks in game. I don't remember. I just know I lost a lot of good
stuff. Which at that point, was some serious money if I had just sold them.
Up till last night, I had just been selling anything I wouldn't use so that it
wouldn't happen again.

My bad, the stones do recharge any magic weapons in your inventory. They are
called varla stones, they are like the green welkynd stones that recharge your
magic, but better and more powerful, and harder to find. They are in ruins, up
higher like a lightbulb, often they have a cage around them where you have to
find the switch to raise the cage. They are also worth 1000 gold each. I
haven't played oblivion in quite a while, I forget the details.
The house is worth it. I waited forever to get it because I didn't want to
spend the gold, but in the end I wished I'd done it sooner. in Skyrim I keep
all my smithing stuff in one chest, all my soulgems in one cupboard, my alchemy
stuff in one chest, etc. Much easier. I like the diplay plaques for the
weapons, too.

I
still take along a silver dagger (faster and does more dmg that larger weapons)
for the critters that don't deserve the wrath of my magic dagger, though.

Silver>
I think the pirate cave is protected, but I'm not sure. I need to get the
captain's quarter's upgrade since I think that puts a chest in my bedroom
there.

Oblivion>
Soul Trap. :)

As for putting them in boxes...don't. Unless your pirates cave is a protected
place. I lost some excellent stuff when an area respawned. I was using a
cabinet in the fighters guild in Skingaard and some boxes on the wharf in
Anvil. Not worth the loss. That isn't a bug. Areas reset on a regular basis
so that you can keep getting ingredients, etc. Too bad the stuff on the
shelves doesn't repop as well!

I imagine it's worth your 5K is my point. :)

Oblivion>
It actually took me a while to save up the $5k+ I have right now. I'm not sure
I want to crank it all into a house, especially while I have my little pirate
cave right near Anvil (I think it's one of the add-ons). The big advantage
would be that I can fast travel to one of Anvil's gates then walk to that house
a lot faster than I can fast travel to the pirate cave and walk through it to
the little sunken harbor area.. which would be better for fencing and storing
loot.

I'm not going to store anything else in corpses. There's almost always a
nearby barrel or chest, which I'll just use instead. If I'm bothering to hide
something (either to keep, or to sell later) it's important enough not to risk
that bug I stumbled into earlier with corpses.

I'm not sure about any white stones, but I've kept a pretty good supply of soul
stones on me. They recharge individual items' charges and the amount depends
on the level of soul stone. I usually find them empty in the mage guilds and
use "steal soul" or whatever the spell is while fighting mobs to store souls in
them.

Oblivion> Everything in your house is safe. The white stones (I can't remember
the name either) do not charge everything. They have a limit to how much
charging they can do, and with some weapons they won't even fully recharge one
of them, depending what the weapon holds.

Skyrim> I have 2 buggy quests right now that are driving me nuts. One of them
is part of the imperial legion questline. I'm supposed to go to a fort with
some men to clear it out, except when I get there, there is no one there to
kill, and it still says "0% completed." The thieves guild one too I still
haven't gotten to work. i tried all the item codes I could find online and some
don't work at all, and some says "thieves guild armor added" but they aren't
there when I go to look, and the theives guild fence still gives me the same
line. Argh.

Feoh>>>
What level are you again?
In Oblivion, the dungeons are level specific...
If you go into a dungeon at level 5, you'll see monsters and loot that are
specific for a level 5 character.
If you go into the exact same dungeon at level 25 or 30 o rwhatever, the loot
and monsters wlil reflect that level.
So, early on, your loot runs won't yield tons of cash. But, later on, I
remember loot runs averaging around 8k-10k gold.
Just depends.

If it's anything like Morrowind and Skyrim, just loot everything and sell it
all and repeat over and over. Eventually you'll stop having to loot crap items
and just get the better things to sell off. Time consuming, sure, but that's
the quick fast way at riches in the games...

Oblivion>
Theres a house you can buy cheap in Anvil for 5000. Its a quest though. You
have to de-haunt it. But, hey, now I have a storage depot! Just finished that
quest last night. Also, you can put loot in corpses, just maximize your
carrying vs return. I never put magic items in corpses, and I look at weight
versus how much its worth. So, iron/steel stuff go in corpses, while the glass
and ebony come with me, etc. If I lose it, eh...no biggy.

I cant remember the name of the white stones worth 1000 that can recharge your
magic items, but, am I right in that it recharges *all* magic items youre
carrying? If so, it justifies my not selling any magic items for a while now
that I have a house. I have a cabinet with just magic items. When I get a LOT
in there, I plan on doing that to recharge everything and either use them
again, or sell them for max value.

With regards to feather potions, Ive finally gotten into Alchemy and have
discovered how to make feather potions. They are only 0.2 in weight which is
lower than the combined weight of the ingredients used to make it. Weight is
determined by the average of the components, actually by the first you make of
any given version of the potion. If it improves, make sure you use light
components again, as thats what sets it. The game faqs were handy. I now have
three with just the things I pick up randomly and in town. Didnt cost me
anything. :D Also, making potions ups my Alchemy a LOT faster than just
eating the components. So, double bonus!

Oblivion>
Unfortunately, I only have a couple of feather potions that I've been saving
for when I'm in a real pinch. I don't have the spell or any enchanted items
yet.

Also, Silver, when I was running equipment back from this fort, I would be
"attacked" every time I left the fort. I didn't see anyone around and you
can't fast travel when an enemy is near.. so I had to run halfway back to town
each time. When I finished the fort and went back outside, I finally found out
that it was an archer on a high platform above me that was "attacking" all
those times. I just couldn't see him through the floor and since he couldn't
hit me with his arrows (through the floor).

I'm pretty much over it at this point, really. The armor was just a really
nice dwarven heavy armor (7 armor) that looked neat--no magic properties or
anything. And since switching to light armor, I have a much better magic
piece. Oh yeah, thanks for letting me know that stuff I'm wearing only
encumbers by half.. that'll be particularly useful now that I'm wearing light
armor. I can switch to any heavy pieces I'm carrying for town loot runs.

I won't be putting any more loot into corpses. I do have a stash in the pirate
cave I took over but I don't own any houses yet. I'm up over 6k gold so maybe
it's about time to buy one.

Skyrim> Yes at 100 enchanting you get 2 enchants per item. If you have
discovered destruction or any other school or magic, you then can enchant 4
things with Magic Reduction on that school and cast all those spells for free.
And with dual enchant, you're able to put whatever else enchant you want on
the item as well. If you really wanted to you could max out 2 school of magic
and be able to continually cast without ever needing to replenish mana. I just
have the destruction maxed out as I find myself now using my 2 handed sword
more than anything else...

(Knightshade/269244) Ok, new update on the $ situation in KoA :)

Ok, new update on the $ situation in KoA :)

I had like 600k gold or so... then I made my way to Rathir (city on the east
coast of one of the two continents).... honestly, since I'm trying to hit every
quest, I probably could've played another 15-20 hours before getting there, but
there were a couple of skill trainers there I needed to hit as I was about to
"miss" the window for being able to use them level/skill wise.

And the stores had some really nice, really expensive, shit :)

So after some training and some new EQ I'm under 50k again- with probably
another 3-5 items I will come back to get once I go up another level or two and
can use it (and have the $ for it).

So my plan at this point is mainly to go back through to sections I kinda ran
through to get to the city, at which point I should have a decent bit of $
again.

It's pretty nuts how improved my character is after the EQ swap though... not
that the #s will mean much to anyone not playing, but I went in with armor
around 400-ish, a sword that did about 90 damage, and a bow that did about
75....

Now I've got armor closer to 800, a sword that does like 175, a bow that also
does about 175...and every piece of armor and both weapons have 2 utility gems
each in em... so 4 gems each of the following: +20% health, +2 hp/sec regen,
+17% mana, +2 mana/sec regen.

i started laying off the sneaking and bow-sniping in skyrim because i didn't
feel strong enough once i got rushed. plus, i have fireball now, which is
hella powerful on just about everybody except flame atronachs and has lots of
splash damage. so with that in my left hand and the mace of molag bal in my
right, destruction and one-handed are getting really high.

my stepdaughter is only a few levels higher than me, but she pretty much did
only two-handed melee and now has 100 in two-handed. she cuts through pretty
much everybody like butter, so i figured i was doing something wrong.

i was reading a little bit on gamefaqs, and apparently via enchanting you can
get armor that reduces the cost of, for example, destruction spells by 100%.
as in, free f'ing destruction dual-cast spamming! holy smokes.

Oblivion>
I lost my gear that I had stored in a box on the warf in Anvil - first learning
experience! Lost some good stuff unfortunately. I then ran to the Fighters
Guild in Skingard where I had stored some other stuff and it was gone too.
So...yeah. I need to finish the house quest in Anvil so that I have a house.
You guys are telling me anything stored in a house is safe then? Cause I have
some things I'd like to hold onto, but would prefer it not weigh me down in the
meantime.

Also, I second the feather enchantment. I have boots that give me +65 Feather.
It's *nice*. Also, you can up your strength to have more carrying capacity. I
wouldn't recommend ever taking off your armor for that. Now, what I have done
- depending on how high your Heavy Armor is - is to switch what I'm wearing to
the heaviest item for each body part. I think it's Journeyman or higher,
anything your wearing only encumbers you by half. That's helped me more than a
few times.

As for looting and number of trips, you do use fast travel right? Took me a
bit to figure that one out as the first time when they offer that, I just
started wandering to see what there was to see. Also, I too tend to put extra
loot in corpse. I tend to put it all in the first corpse in the dungeon to
make the remaining trips a lot easier. :)

With regards to the selling price of magic items, I'm not just referring to
items that have charges, I mean at all. I can go from one shop to the next,
and someone I have haggle set to 70% offers me 600, then go next door, and have
haggle set to 81% and they offer me 534. Exact same item, no use/time in
between. Am I imagining shit? Perhaps I should write this all down and go
through and look at them all, hmmm.

Oblivion>
Yeah Feoh, I just started upping my Agility. Most of the benefits don't really
apply to my character but I noticed that my recovery times after getting hit
were awful so I started cranking it up.

I did have one really frustrating problem last night. I was exploring a fort
and ended up killing a bunch of vampires. They all had heavy armor and
weapons, so I dropped the equipment I wanted to keep in one of the corpses and
ran a few trips to town. When I got back, the items I stored showed up twice
in the corpse, but both disappeared when I grabbed one. Also, my armor was
gone! So now I've switched to light armor and weapons so I can keep them on me
at all times. Maybe it wouldn't have happened if I'd stored my stuff in, say,
a barrel rather than a corpse.. but still frustrating as hell to have to choose
between losing my nice armor or the time/money of several loot runs to town (my
last save was before the runs).

The economics of Skyrim seem to be decent. I have to really hoard and save to
build up capital, and I blow through it pretty quickly on crafting. Have
Smithing up to about 65, need to work more on enchanting and alchemy.

It's also weird -- certain vendors will now let me just take stuff off their
shelves, and it's not considered stealing. I grabbed about 25 bars of iron and
steel and half of a store worth of reagants at one point.

Oblivion> when you look to sell magic weapons, the value depends how much
"life" the weapon has left. If you are trying to sell something with only 3
hits left to use on it, it's worth a lot less than if it's fully charged when
you try to sell it.

They have a
wonderful filter system, and you can select Price Drops -> Free -> Games up top
and get a daily dump of free games (along with utilities and every other
Appstore category).
(SilverEdge/269223) Oblivion>

Oblivion>
On dread zombies, for me, I've found that magic does jack to them. 44
fireballs...it kept coming. Hack and slash for a minute or two straight, with
some running here and there to recover fatigue/health, and back at it. But, I
find that if you can find a slope with you having the upper hand, it is a lot
easier. Cause when you knock them back, they have to climb back up, giving you
free hits. Once I figured this out, I don't worry much about them. But I do
save if I know I'm going up against one, cause Astral Vapors sucks to contract.

Selling items - So, I know how to get the different shopkeepers dispositions up
and I'm finding which tend to allow for better haggles, even when all are at
100 (or damn near). But, I'll be damned if magic items are *NOT* consistent.
Most normal gear, if it says 77%, it's 77% of the item value. But magic items,
one might say 77% but it's only like 20% of it's value. Now, I'm not referring
to the 600, 800, 1000, 1200 limit thing. I'm talking in general on low value
things. Is there some method to this madness?

Also, on Misers point, yeah, I can't help but investigate pretty much every
fort, cave, shrine I can find while going to the next place. Kill, loot, sell,
continue... :)

I actually think the money thing is a shortcoming of most RPGs anymore.... the
open world ones anyway....

$ is tight early on... at some point in the game (usually anywhere from 1/4-1/2
way through depending on the game) you realize you have more money than you
know how to spend..... (or huge piles of equipment you have stored and can sell
for more $ than you know how to spend once you find vendors with the cash to
buy em in the case of some bethesda games)

This is one aspect I really liked about RAGE though, even though it's not
"really" and RPG (though minus the character leveling it kinda is).... they go
the economy really really solid... at no point was I SO bad off I was thinking
"Man, if I miss with this bullet, I can't afford another one!" but at no point
did I have SO much money I could spend like a drunken lunatic... and indeed I
was easily able to spend down to $0 in prep for the final mission... and while
I ended up with a little bit more than I needed for it, it wasn't crazy.

Course Rage was only a 20 hour game, versus 100-200 hrs in the bethesda
stuff...

Mass Effect did fine keeping you broken, if anything I ended both games with
one or two upgrades I didn't end up with the $ to buy... but that's "easy"
because they're not really open world.. (ie there's not random encounters,
enemies don't ever repopulate, there's not insane mountains of junk sitting
around everywhere you can steal/sell/etc)

Feb 13, 2012 10:22 from Miser
Knightshade>
So what was the secret to making money? I think in your last post you said it
was a little difficult to come by. It sounds like a really fun game from what
I've heard and the screen shots I've seen.

Time really... from like levels 1-5 at least I didn't spend $ _at all_ and
still only had like 9k.... after that you start to get items that are actually
worth a crap to sell, plus you've probably been able to get a couple points
into the mercantile skill...

Also, by level 10-12 or so you've probably found the first "fence" in the game,
so you can start selling off all your stolen items.

But yeah, back at level 5 you're thinking "It's 15k a pop to use a trainer and
in 5 levels I've barely got 9? that shit ain't happening!"

Now at level 20 I'm planning my travels explicitly to get to the other trainers
ASAP to do something with all this cash....

Plus, the trainer thing is a little tricky, because there's 3 "levels" of
trainer....each skill has different trainers... level 1 trainers in a skill an
can only train you if your base level in that skill is 0-3. Level 2 trainers
can only help if you're 4-6... level 3 is 7-9 (max in a skill is 10).

Each trainer can only train you once... there are 2 trainers in each skill for
levels 0-3, and then 1 in each skill for 4-6 and 7-9.

So if you wanna min/max you have to hit all the 0-3 trainers before your +1
skill point from leveling each time has pushed those skills too high to use the
low-level trainers...and that is pretty difficult given the $ situation
early....

BUT... the cool thing is with a fateweaver you can reapportion your point at
any time... so if you missed, say, both of the "detect hidden" trainers in the
0-3 level you can pay a fateweaver to respec all your points and set your
detect hidden back to 0... then hit the two trainers... then respec back with
the 2 extra points.

The way they keep you from abusing it is it's like 1500 gold to respec the
first time.... then 3000 the next time... then 6k... then 12k... then 24k...
then 48k... then 98k...then 196k.... you get the idea...

So you can pretty comfortably do it 5 or 6 times no problem... after that it's
taking LARGE chunks of even a level 20 bankroll for times 7 or 8... and more
money than you have at level 20 for time 9.

Oh, one other KoA thing... not really a gripe per se... just that the stealth
system works fine for stealing stuff.... but situations have been very few and
far between that it's been worth a crap for combat... largely because of 2
things:

1) You rarely encounter a "single" enemy... so while you might get off an
insta-kill backstab on one guy, IF you can get behind him without the rest of
the group noticing, that's about all it nets you, and in exchange you have to
swap to a crappy dagger-type weapon then back to a "real" one for the rest of
the fight.

2) The game seems unclear about which enemies you actually CAN get the
insta-kill backstab on. This might be clarified in the manual someplace I
guess.... but between the above, and the combat distances generally being
relatively short (as opposed to say FO, or even Rage, where a stealth kill from
a distance didn't immediately put you into melee with 5 other guys) I've not
had much use for the stealth system (or any related abilities you might dump
points into) in KoA.

I've been following a 3-class destiny, because the extra skill points you get
are pretty huge (there are 9 core skills, with 10 levels.... you only get 40
points to invest at max level, plus 3 or 4 from your race choice... getting the
max-level 3-class destiny gives you an extra _18_ skill points)... but I'm
thinking if not for the extra skill points I'd go with just might/sorcery as
the Finesse ability tree has left me pretty underwhelmed...

Of course with a fateweaver you can respec your entire character at any point,
so that's nice :)

It sounds like a really fun game from what
I've heard and the screen shots I've seen.

I've noticed the books in Oblivion also stay around to sell later, though I can
probably count the number I've actually bought on one hand. Mostly I just read
them where they are and not even bother picking them up.

Speaking of summoning minions... more update on Kingdoms of Amalur!

I got to the point you can summon a minion... and granted there's a bunch of
upgrades I don't have for him yet, but mostly he kinda sucks...

You can't designate a target for him, and his own AI isn't very good from what
I've seen... he works as a distraction maybe 3/4 of the time if you're lucky
and if there's not more than 2 or 3 bad guys... so better than nothing, but
overall a bit underwhelming.

On the other hand, thanks to some min maxing and use of gems my armor is so
insanely high that I can't recall the last time I've had to actually make any
healing poitions.... plus a couple of hp regenerating utility gems helps.

I'm level 19 or 20 now I think... hard to say how much of the game I've
completed... I've got between 35-40 hours of play in now, and IF you assume the
map is roughly equally dense in all sections in 'stuff to do' I can't be any
more than maybe 1/3rd of the way through...

So anyway, really enjoying the game, only negative criticisms so far:

1) The minion needs some work

2) The inclusion of the smashing-crates I mentioned earlier... it's even
sillier by the fact that I've got hundreds of thousands in gold now, but the
crate smashing only nets you a couple dozen gold out of a whole room full of
smashing even now...and yet you still find said crates/barrels in "new"
locations at this point in the game.... so financially it's not even worth the
TIME to smash yet their continued appearance/inclusion is a distraction

3) It's a little unclear WHICH items "count" against your inventory limit...
weapons and armor and stuff is obvious... but _some_ potions seem to count, and
others don't.. same with some other items... so it's pretty difficult when you
see you're "using" 70 out 90 inventory slots exactly where/how you're using em.

One really really little thing that this game does that I really like- in most
games that have "skill books" you read the book, and it's gone. In KoA you
read the book.... and you still have the book. Obviously you can't gain
another skill point from it, since you now "know" the info in it... but you can
still sell the book for full price, because OTHER people can still learn from
it of course. really tiny thing but it made so much sense when I saw it that I
loved it :)

Feoh>
I think I was only level 7 or 8 when I did that one. :) My strategy has been
to summon a zombie in front of the mob and attack from the side until the mob
turns on me, then either put up my shield or run around letting my zombie whale
on the mob. If my zombie is killed, I just cast another one.

My primary weapon is a really nice rare dagger that steals life and does a half
dozen other things. I don't remember the name off the top of my head. As a
dagger, it swings fast and slices mobs up pretty good.

I think in that cave I had one or two encounters where I had to fight two
zombies at once. In those cases, I just did a lot of kiting--running back into
previous rooms while casting summon zombie and getting in some jabs here and
there.

Oh another one I just read up about is X3 - Reunion which is supposed to be
one of the best sandbox free roam space sim from 2005. Though was reading a
lot of people said it was a lot more complex and stuff to play which was a turn
off to a number of people. Thinking I might try that as it's similar to
Freelancer and I have X - Beyond the Frontier so I'm kind of familiar with how
the game probably works...

(Miser/269211) Space games>

Space games>
I think Freelancer is still my favorite for the "modern" games. I put modern
in quotes there because it's old but not dinosaur-age like Elite or Space
Rogue--two games I absolutely love. I was thrilled when I heard that Star Wars
Galaxies was adopting the Freelancer engine for its space expansion. In fact,
I'm almost sure that's what killed Earth and Beyond (well, that and a lack of
free y-axel movement!) Oh, on the old, old games, another favorite of mine
from the C=64 days was Buck Rogers. It basically played just like the gold box
AD&D games except in space. You could explore planets and space, take over
other ships, etc etc.

Oblivion>
I just got the last mage guild recommendation I need to get into the arcane
sanctuary. I've been trying to clean up my quest log a bit before heading in
there. Kind of funny how I just can't help but stop in the random fort or cave
on the way to a quest objective. Definitely having more fun with this title
now. I'm up to level 9 and have some pretty nice gear so far.

I did run into a problem last night where I was fighting some bandits in the
wilderness and "lost" their corpses in the grass. The solution I found was to
turn grass draw distance down to zero. Something to keep in mind if those
playing it now end up losing corpses that need a good looting, or their
weapons.

Well those ones didn't have a point really other than living like you
hypothetically would be in real life if it had existed. Terminus had a story
line to it as well as X-Beyond. You could follow it if you chose or not. You
also could be axed out of your faction in Terminus, which actaully ended the
entire storyline without able to get back into it.

They just need to take the whole Skyrim/Morrowing/Oblivion idea and make it
space age, with planets, asteriod and ships etc rather than person to person
fighting (unless they wanted to expand a bit into actual star ships), have a
main storyline, but have a ton of other ones like those games, follow the main
one if you want to or not, or just screw around. So I think it would be
basically the same concept as the Fallout/Skyrim style, just with space and
ships rather than people and buildings...

I agree there could definitely be more, and better sci-fi out there. I was
thinking about Elite and Starflight the other day!

I think that part of the problem is that concepts from these games have been
integrated into newer games, but the nature of gaming has changed.

Think about it, what's Mass Effect? You're flying around a HUGE universe in a
ship, exploring and pillaging different worlds as you go.

I think one of the biggest things that's changed is that modern games are much
more cinematic - people expect a continuing story that evolves and eventually
comes to a finite conclusion. Games like Elite and Starflight had no concept
of 'winning' you could keep playing forever if you so chose!

I agree with the Sci-Fi boost being needed. I'd love for a Skyrim style
Space type game like the old C64 Elite, Space Rogue etc. I've gotten X-Beyond
(or something) and Terminus, but both are small and fairly old. Just need a
good RPG one with multiple factions/races/aligments with the way to make money
like mining, pirating, trading etc.

KoA gripe-

Ok, I'm continuing to love this game... but one thing keeps making me shake my
head-

The blend of deep RPG and super smooth action-game combat is awesome and sets a
standard for RPGs in a lot of ways.

And yet...

You go into towns... and there's random boxes and barrels to smash. Straight
outta 1992 or something. They even repop.

And they even show up inside stores and other buildings.

And while the game has an entire modern theft/chance of arrest/bribe guards/go
to jail/stolen goods have limited chance to sell mechanic... NOBODY seems to
care if you go into a store and smash the fuck outta all the boxes and barrels
in there every time.

It's freaking bizare.

At least the Bards Tale remake on the original Xbox put this antique cliche in
with a VERY VERY heavy nod to how weird it was- with you being given the task
to smash all this stuff early by the merchant who sells the barrels as a way to
drum up business for him.

here though it's played totally straight.... as if they had finished designing
this brilliant, awesome, ahead of its time game... then some producer who last
played an RPG in the mid 90s wandered in and said "wait, what? you don't have
randomly smashable barrels? You HAVE TO HAVE randomly smashable barrels... Put
it in...that's an order!"

Other than that game is still fantastic... though I'm pretty sure there's gotta
be some trick to getting a lot more $ I haven't figured out yet (probably
related to shards/gems maybe?) because trainers are f'ing INSANE expensive,
like $15,000 per point in a skill... and in reaching level 5 I had barely
earned about $10,000 the entire game, buying nothing at all (because the
preorder stuff was really quite good)

Exactly. Mass Effect (IMHO) is the pinnacle of gaming. The characters have so
much depth and the decisions you make really alter the world around you.

Skyrim> I don't think you can complete the TG quests without giving up the
skeleton key. I gave it up, because my lockpicking is at like 92 right now and
is mostly pretty easy. I rarely go below 99+ lockpicks on hand.
I still haven't been able to get the console command for TG armor to work. It
says it was added to my inventory, but it's never there, and the quest won't
continue. Many of the item #s don't work, the few that do, like I said they
dont' show up in my inventory. I haven't played much lately because recently
it's been crashing a ton whenever I'm in a cave. The other day I played for 2
hours and it crashed 3-4 times. Not just crashed, but it requires a computer
reboot which gets old. Dunno why it's happening all the time when it was rare
before, but apparently a lot of people have the same issue.

Feoh> I wish the sci-fi genre were to be given a boost as well. I'm getting
tired of everything being a Halo-clone FPS or yet-another-GTA-clone. Could it
be that games with actual stories are making a comeback? (Oh, and the zillion
areas to explore)

bah, Blizzard takes something potentially cool and fucks you again:

Can I convert my Battle.net Balance into cash?
Any amount you add to your Battle.net Balance, either through an approved
payment method or by adding Diablo III auction house earnings to your
Battle.net Balance, will not be refundable (except as otherwise provided by
law), and you are not able to convert that Balance into cash. Battle.net
Balance can only be used to buy designated Blizzard Entertainment products and
services or to acquire items from Diablo III's currency-based auction house. In
certain regions, Diablo III players may choose to receive cash, rather than add
to their Battle.net Balance, from the sale of an item from the currency-based
auction house. Those players will be able to do so via PayPal for an additional
fee. Players will need to determine which method they wish to use at the time
they post their auction.

Oh, and BTW, the Commander Shepard armor in KOA is pretty awesome... put points
into Might I wasn't planning to just because how massively better it was at the
start (well, nearly the start) of the game compared to even the absolutely best
stuff you can buy/find.

Only odd thing.... there's 5 pieces... but the set bonuses seem to stop at 4
items...so it looks like you don't "gain" anything from wearing the last item
(besides whatever the item itself does of course)

The fate-touched weapons I'm rather less impressed by... I've already got
better stuff mostly at level 3... but the armor, especially with the set bonus
stuff, is still 2-3 times better than anything else.

Skyrim - There is some good mods that fix that issue. One will organize your
favorites in an easy way to show favorite weapons, destruction, alteration,
cojuration etc spells as well as a misc catagory. So with that you just select
your favorites and use the favorites hotkey and select what items you want for
what keyboard (PC only) number from 1-9. Works great.

SkyUI is also really recommended for changing how the inventory works. It
really sorts things out really well compared to the default...

I got Kingdoms for the 360 delivered yesterday.... and yeah, it's excellent so
far...

My wife got skyrim on the Ps3 release day; At the time I was still busy with
other games (and have largely remained so, and will remain so at least through
finishing both Kingdoms and ME3)... she's still playing Skyrim... but I figured
I'll get to play her copy free once she's done with it, and haven't much had
time to play it anyway with all the other shit that I was busy with
game-wise... (Uncharted 3, Assasins Creed Revelations, Dead Island, Rage, etc)

Anyway, one thing I like about Kingdoms so far, at least from what I've seen of
it... it manages to offer a large open(ish) world, with character building that
is both deep and VERY VERY flexible, as well as deep systems for crafting items
and potions and a deep multi-line combat system.... but actually engaging
in combat is very very very natural.... I can go through a string of melee
combos, fire off a half dozen arrows, several spells, all mixed smoothly with
each other in the same fight, without ever having to bring up a pause or radial
menu or swapping gear or anything else...

It's like they succesfully transplanted an EXCELLENT action game combat system
into an otherwise excellent RPG.... it's nice.

It won't offer QUITE the strategy depth some RPGs do as far as building an idea
3-4 person party with appropriate cross-over skills and buffs, but it's not
meant to.... (and really not much does that anymore anyway- DA maybe)

Skyrim> Well the creation kit is finally out and modding has jumped up to a
new level right now. Unfortunately many of the new homes/NPC etc are in
testing phase, but in a few weeks, there should be a ton of new cool things to
add to Skyrim that wasn't easily done before...

In Ocarina of Time, you can "win" by sealing up Ganon/Ganondorf while Link is
an adult. Or... You can choose to travel back in time to the Hyrule of his
childhood and stop Ganon from claiming the Triforce. Those are the two commonly
accepted timelines - sealing up Ganon brings about the events of the Wind
Waker, where there's lot of sea. The other brings about the event of Majora's
Mask and Twilight Princess.

For the Zelda fans out there, I've just found out that there's a new Hyrule
Historia book that's been officially sanctioned by Nintendo, and contains the
whole "official" Zelda timeline. The website
http://www.glitterberri.com/hyrule-historia have been translating it, and it
says that the commonly accepted split of Hyrule history in Ocarina of Time is
correct as far as it goes... But that there's a third timeline that also comes
out in the aftermath of Ocarina, which is where Ganon butchers Link, and that
leads to all the events that are in the 2D Zelda adventures (Link to the Past,
Oracle of Seasons, etc).

Yeah, yeah, I know... Only obsessed Zelda fanatics will be remotely interested
in it, but I thought it was interesting. (Oh no, I've just doomed myself!
*jumps through ground floor window* Umm...)

Feoh>
It was one of the mages in the guild in Chorrol. One of them has a lot of
handy spells including the two summons I mentioned. Since I can already summon
an ancestral spirit (race ability as a dark elf) I figured I'd spring for
zombie and get the ghost summon later. Especially after hearing Silver talk
about his trouble with headless zombies (though I realize they're different
from head..ful ones?)

I wish I could remember which merchant I got my trap soul spell from so I could
let Silver know. It's been damn handy for recharging my magic items! And I
have to say, now that I may have made an enemy of the mage guild in Chorrol,
it's tempting to try and break into their display cases and get all those soul
stones!

(Miser/269164) Oblivion>

Oblivion>
I found another spell merchant who was selling summon ghost and summon zombie.
I decided to go for the latter for now and damn it's been handy! Fought some
bandits and came up with a really handy strategy. When they charge me, I throw
a zombie in front of them and let him start whacking. Then I run up behind
them with my dagger and go to town. Eventually, they'll turn around and start
attacking me, at which point I pull up my shield and let them hit me while my
zombie pummels their back. When they turn on him, I go to town again, etc etc.
Works really well. And, since I can summon at least three zombies without any
magick recharge, I can keep it going if he dies.

I also just ran the Fingers of the Mountain quest and gave the book to the bad
lady at the Inn. Hopefully it doesn't hurt my chances at getting into the
super cool awesome guild library I keep hearing about. :) So far, it looks
like I may not be getting the Chorrol recommendation.

I'll focus on getting a better weapon next.
Seems silly to spend more on spells until I get a better magicka reserve and
can use them really effectively - and, more than once :)

I ran into one of the dragon priests in Skyrim that was like that. Dude had a
fireball staff so I couldn't drain him with lightning. It took me many, many
tries to kill him, a lot of potions, and I eventually got him by with
destruction magic, used IMpact + double lightning bolt to knock him off a
cliff and then rain down hell from above where I could duck behind terrain. He
couldn't climb back up, but his FB staff has a HUGE radius and still hit me.

Definitely the hardest encounter I've had so far.

Feoh> I'm level 16 and the one Dread Headless Zombie was seriously kicking my
ass. I used 40 charges of fireball...It looked like it took damage, but didn't
kill it. I basically let it chase me. Finally I found a hallway that allowed
me to have a slight uphill advantage and used that to cut the hell out of him.
I used a glass dagger and longsword (depending on which time it was!) to attack
him. That is finally what killed him. But it took a LONG time. He is pretty
boss. I ran away at one point to get out of his 'seeking range', healed up,
and then came back in through the other way to finish killing him.

Diablo 3>

Ok, so my first impression after playing the mage to level 5 (had to leave at
that point) was "this is pew pew easy/boring". I didn't really look at the
game much since I had to hurry and leave the house.

AFter I had some time to play and experiment, it's become a lot more enjoyable.
I even played with random strangers and *LOVE* the loot system now.

Whatever drops that you see is yours to pickup. No one can gank your shit.
Now, if you drop items, they become free-for-all, but initial drops are all
yours. I was playing around with the crafting a little bit, too, and that has
potential.... so if you get a lot of shitty drops, you can try to craft
yourself something semi-cool, at least until you get better drops. :)

No more town-portal scrolls, instead you get a stone that you click on that is
your portal, so no need to buy a bunch of scrolls.

I also love that you can click on another player's banner and it teleports you
to them.

Oblivion> Finally hit level 10. Still getting my butt handed to me by the
headless zombies in bleak flats cave :) Maybe I need a strategy for dealing
with multiple combatants at once. I seem to have issues when dealing with more
than one significantly tough opponent.

Anyone have any favorites for dealing with headless zombies? I have Fireball
though only enough Magicka to cast one per combat session (Still ahve a couple
of Major Heal potential after that, but only enough 'juice' for one fireball :)

And if they don't have it, http://www.firefold.com/ will. These are some new
guys that sprung up locally. Bought a bunch of articulating HDMI cables from
them.
