She wasnt dead when they said she
was and they could have saved her."

Hospital spokesman Minsalih Sahapov assured an investigation into the matter
was under way.
Links

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2007356/Woman-dies-heart-attack-cau
sed-shock-waking-OWN-funeral.html

There's no easy way. You can link directly to Facebook pictures, but not
video. You need to persuade him to upload it to YouTube. Or email it to you
and you do it :-)

I'm sure he thought he was alone, and I'm equally sure he actually wasn't.
It's the simplest explanation.

A friend of mine (older gentleman) posted a video he took at some pirate
queen's castle in Ireland. At a certain point, he pauses in his narration and
you can clearly hear a man's voice in the background. Not English, but could
be Gaelic or some other language. He says he knows he was alone in the castle
and didn't even hear the voice until after he got home and watched his
recording. Kinda creepy. Anyone speak Gaelic?

"The only conclusion that I can come to. . . it's a time traveller."

I can come to a few other possibilities, such as a crazy old lady talking to
herself and holding a hand up to her face. Now which is more likely, that in
1928 Los Angeles there was a schizophrenic old lady (or even man in a dress) or
a time traveller using a cell phone in a city without a cell network? Take
your pick.

I read something about Hitler and the Nazis in a book on famous people that
I've since misplaced. The gist was that there was some sort of weapon that
Hitler had that supposedly gave him power, and was buried with his remains.

Now I think about it, the author MIGHT have lifted that straight out of the
plot of the Omen....

Yep, if you didn't want people to just give you links, asking for links might
not have been the best course of action.

Not occultism but UFOs:

There's a conspiracy theory that UFOs were actually flying disc planes invented
as a secret weapon by Nazis, with the technology confiscated under Operation
Paperclip.

There's almost certainly nothing to this theory, but one prominent holocaust
denier is on record as encouraging it, because it could be used as a kind of
wedge to drive forward doubt as to the official history of WWII, which a
holocaust denier could use as an excuse to slip in innocuous-seeming factoids
which ultimately support the denier agenda.

Oh, good lord. The last post in here was in July. I was attempting to not
only seek information, but start conversation. I know how to read Wikipedia
and click on the fancy underlined words to get to other pages. I was hoping
for actual discussion and exchange of ideas. Perhaps I phrased my initial
question incorrectly; I know where to turn first - I was merely hoping that
something could get rolling in here, while learning more about a subject with
many nuances and a ton of information available on the web that can be
difficult to navigate (ie, reading the same information over and over again).

(Giraffe/59465) Police barred from penis enlargement

Police barred from penis enlargement
Fri, Apr 23 2010

JAKARTA (Reuters) - Forget about getting a job as a police officer in
Indonesia's Papua if you have had your penis enlarged. You won't get it,
according to local media reports citing the Papua police chief.

An applicant "will be asked whether or not his vital organ has been enlarged,"
said Papua police chief Bekto Suprapto, quoted on local website Kompas.com.

"If he has, he will be considered unfit to join the police or the military."

The ban was applied since the unnatural size causes "hindrance during
training," said police spokesman Zainuri Lubis in Jakarta, quoted by news
portal Detik.com.

Indonesia's remote easternmost province is home to Papuan tribes, many of whom
are known for wearing penis gourds.

A low-level separatist insurgency has waged in the resources-rich part of
Indonesia for decades and there is a heavy police and military presence there.

Papuans use a local technique to achieve the enlargement, according to a
sexologist quoted by local newspaper Jakarta Globe, wrapping the penis with
leaves from the "gatal-gatal" (itchy) tree so that it swells up "like it has
been stung by a bee," the expert said.

The British comedian Eddie Izzard did a funny skit on terms and conditions on
websites in his last tour. He suggest that even the people that write the
terms and conditions don't read the terms and conditions. I'd quote it but I'd
never do it justice, it's so much funnier to watch him (about 1 min 40 secs
in),
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2jO0PthDtk

Also funny is the top comment on that page:
'I actually have read the terms and conditions on a few website.
On one website, about halfway through the terms it said "Congratulations for
bothering to read this, if you quote this line with your purchase, we will
give? you a 10% discount" Which I thought was pretty cool =)'

Makes you think you should read them huh?

Allow me, anything's better than marking ;-) (It's that pesky pounds sterling
sign I think...)

7,500 Online Shoppers Unknowingly Sold Their Souls

A computer game retailer revealed that it legally owns the souls of thousands
of online shoppers, thanks to a clause in the terms and conditions agreed to by
online shoppers.

A computer game retailer revealed that it legally owns the souls of thousands
of online shoppers, thanks to a clause in the terms and conditions agreed to by
online shoppers.

The retailer, British firm GameStation, added the "immortal soul clause" to the
contract signed before making any online purchases earlier this month. It
states that customers grant the company the right to claim their soul.

"By placing an order via this Web site on the first day of the fourth month of
the year 2010 Anno Domini, you agree to grant Us a non transferable option to
claim, for now and for ever more, your immortal soul. Should We wish to
exercise this option, you agree to surrender your immortal soul, and any claim
you may have on it, within 5 (five) working days of receiving written
notification from gamesation.co.uk or one of its duly authorised minions."

GameStation's form also points out that "we reserve the right to serve such
notice in 6 (six) foot high letters of fire, however we can accept no liability
for any loss or damage caused by such an act. If you a) do not believe you have
an immortal soul, b) have already given it to another party, or c) do not wish
to grant Us such a license, please click the link below to nullify this sub-
clause and proceed with your transaction."

The terms of service were updated on April Fool's Day as a gag, but the
retailer did so to make a very real point: No one reads the online terms and
conditions of shopping, and companies are free to insert whatever language they
want into the documents.

While all shoppers during the test were given a simple tick box option to opt
out, very few did this, which would have also rewarded them with a 5 pound
voucher, according to news:lite. Due to the number of people who ticked the
box, GameStation claims believes as many as 88 percent of people do not read
the terms and conditions of a Web site before they make a purchase.

The company noted that it would not be enforcing the ownership rights, and
planned to e-mail customers nullifying any claim on their soul.

They didn't say that he got stuck IN a helium balloon. The balloon had a box of
sorts attached to the bottom of it. It was supposed to be a weather balloon of
sorts, so the box would hold various gear to measure atmospheric pressure,
yadda yadda.

However, considering the thing was made out of cardboard, it's unlikely that
such a balloon would rise to 10K feet and sink to the ground, swinging around
like it was, with a 6 year old child on board and still maintain its structural
integrity.

Gwynn, that's just a comment IN AN INTERVIEW with the host. It's not a theme
of the site. He was SPECIFICALLY asked the question "Have you ever had a real
belief in something ... and then had to change your way of thinking?", and he
was simply answering that question honestly.

You have jumped on that one answer to question and decided to deride the whole
site for it. Very balanced of you.

From the home page:

I used to believe in God, until I realised that I was just continuing another
circular belief. I couldn't honestly see what distinguished it from something
I could just be fooling myself about. All the real-world evidence I had been
told about (like the reliability of the Bible as a historical document), I
found out just didn't hold up at all. Once I saw that, it just started to seem
silly, and no different from a belief in psychic powers or unicorns. So
I realised I couldn't defend it intellectually.

Yeah. It's difficult to see what the connection is, it being right there on
the main page of the site and all that.

Can I just point out that the http://www.scienceofscams.com/ is nothing to do
with religion. I have no idea where that's come from, really.

The website is about how scams, such as psychic ability, can be explained
scientifically. The first video shows a girl apparently using telepathy to
move a piece of paper, and then goes on to explain how this is caused by
convection.

They have 'hidden' several similar videos on YouTube and are challenging
readers to try to find them and explain how it was done.

Since this forum tends to deal with scams I thought people in here might be
interested.

I know if I were a parent and something came shuffling
out of a cave looking like a freak of nature, I would want to blow it's head
off before it could hurt anyone. Some people may want o shake hands with it and
offer it a nice buttered scone.

Again, those people would usually be the first mauled by whatever creature of
nature wasn't afriad of humans (You see how NATRUAL it is to hate shit that
isn't part of your species?) and was mental enough to approach them.

Anyway, it does look like a sloth to me.

If it really was full of corn, then it probably wasn't a true redbelly
(Serrasalmus nattereri). There are a bunch of similar species, many of which
are vegetarian. I remember years ago they pulled a "piranha" out of Lake Erie,
and they concluded it was one of the vegetarian species. That was years ago,
long before pacu were commonly seen as pets, but I bet it was a Colossoma
species or maybe another member of the Serrasalminae.

(Xenos/59412) Giant piranha found in Devon river

Giant piranha found in Devon river
Environment Agency workers shocked to find ferocious fish - believed to have
been a pet - floating in river Torridge
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/aug/28/piranha-devon-river

A giant piranha - the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world - has been
found in a Devon river, the Environment Agency said today.

Bathers in the UK's rivers and streams should be reassured that the fish was
dead and is thought to have been an abandoned pet. Its discovery will add,
however, to experts' anxieties about non-native wildlife being introduced to
the UK.

The fish, of a species more accustomed to the Amazon river basin, was
discovered in the river Torridge by Environment Agency workers conducting a
wildlife survey. Eddie Stevens, one of the three-man monitoring team, said they
were left open-mouthed by their discovery.

"What we actually came across was something which we would not expect to find
in our wildest dreams. We could hardly believe our eyes," he said.

Used to more temperate climes, the fish probably could not tolerate the cold
waters, the agency said. A closer examination revealed that its stomach was
full of sweetcorn - further evidence it may have been kept as a domestic pet.

At a length of 36cm (14in), the red-bellied piranha was a giant of its kind -
more than eight inches longer than an average specimen. The team first spotted
its tail sticking out of an undercut bank on the far side of the river.

"Our first thought was that a sea trout had become lodged in amongst the rocks
and debris collected under the bank," Stevens said. "But when it was removed
from the river we were speechless to find it was a piranha."

The introduction of non-native species poses a serious threat to native
wildlife, according to the agency. Mark Diamond, an ecology manager, said:
"Whilst piranhas can't survive the colder climates of the UK, this latest find
highlights a real issue - that releasing unwanted exotic pets or plants into
rivers can have serious consequences for native wildlife.

"Rather than dumping things in the wild, we would urge people to seek advice
about what to do with exotic species."

http://www.wired.com/ threatlevel/2009/08/daniel/

Luckless Predator Only Attracted to Undercover Cops

By Kevin Poulsen B August 14, 2009 B | B 2:51 pm B | B Categories:
Miscellaneous
It's official. There's nobody in the chat rooms but pedophiles and
undercover police.

On Thursday, a federal appeals court upheld the conviction of an
Indiana man whose online efforts to proposition underage girls led him
to not one, not two, but three undercover cops, none of whom
apparently knew about the others.

The case began in August 2006, when aspiring sexual predator James
Daniel started an online conversation with Amanda_13, a fake
13-year-old girl voiced by Sergeant Richard Howard of the Porter
County Sheriff's Department.

After several highly explicit chats, Daniel asked Amanda_13 to meet
him at a park in Valparaiso, Indiana, to have sex. When he showed up,
he was arrested for inducing an individual under 18 to engage in
criminal sexual activity.

When Secret Service agents searched Daniel's computer, they found logs
of chats with two other apparent minors, who described themselves as
13 and 15 years old, respectively. Federal prosecutors introduced the
chats at Daniel's trial as evidence of his perverted motives.

Supposedly, it was only after Daniel was convicted that the feds
realized that one of those girls, daisy13_Indiana, was also a cop
working the very same Secret Service operation. They informed Daniel's
attorney, who appealed on the grounds that the government improperly
withheld information that would have proven entrapment.

The case became even more bizarre when the three-judge appellate panel
reviewing the conviction saw the screen name of the third supposed
teenager, blonddt, and recognized it from an earlier case.

"To our surprise, the government was unaware until this panel told it
at oral argument that the other screen name, blonddt, was also an
officer from the Indiana operation," wrote Judge Diane Wood (.pdf) on
Thursday.

Despite the prosecutorial missteps, the panel upheld Daniel's
conviction, ruling that the additional chat logs still showed his
intent to commit a crime. Daniel is serving a sentence of
17-and-a-half years in prison, followed by supervised release for
life.

There's no evidence in the record that he ever succeeded in talking
with a real underage girl.

The youngster
has shown remarkable artistic talent since he first asked for a pencil and pad
on holiday last year. His eye for colour has been lauded by several artists,
as has his confidence when applying brush to canvas.

Keiron was deemed to be so good that a local art gallery in his home town of
Holt, in Norfolk, paid for him to attend a 12-week art adult class in January.
The primary school boy was taught in oils and watercolour and is now exhibiting
his work at a gallery, The Last Picture Show in Town, as part of a week-long
festival in the town.

Your daily dose of creepy. Or else somebody had a hell of an idea on how to
spice up an auction. Well, both.

http://bit.ly/YAAD3
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HAUNTED-DOLL-JENNA-9-YRS-OLD-VERY-ACTIVE-SPIRIT-L-K_W0QQ
itemZ120444434105QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item1c0b0c36b9&_trk
sid=p3286.m63.l1177&_trkparms=240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

========

Please do not buy any of the dolls I am listing to give to a
child...they are not toys! If you easily frightened or are not prepared
to handle any experiences you may have as a result of bringing these
dolls into your home, then you should not bid!!

My grandmother always collected dolls, and as a child I never knew why
I wasn't allowed playing with her "special" dolls, until they were
giving to me after her passing tHREE years ago. She called them
special each one having their own names and places they were
kept. Each of these dolls I will place on auction not because I don't
want them any longer, it is because they deserve someone who will give
them the attention and care I cannot give them. Since I have been
selling my grandmother's dolls, I have learned alot about hauntings
and spirits, so I have started doing EVP's (voice recordings that you
cannot hear with the naked ear) on my Grandmother's dolls. I have also
recorded them with my night vision video camera. The shots and
recordings I have gotten were amazing! I never knew that these dolls
were as active as they were. On many of the recordings I have heard
them talking among each other, laughing, crying, yelling, some where
easy to make out, some were very hard, and some I couldnt make out at
all. This is one of the MANY dolls given to me by my Grandmother, her
name is JENNA. JENNA IS THE LOVING POSITIVE SPIRIT OF A 9 YEAR OLD
LITTLE GIRL. LITTLE JENNA HAD A ROUGH SHORT LIFE. HER FATHER RAPED,
AND BEAT HER ON A DAILY BASIS. AS A VICTIM OF HER FATHERS TORTURE SHE
HAD NO ONE TO TALK TO ABOUT IT. SHE WAS ALL ALONE, HER MOTHER PASSED
AWAY DURING HER BIRTH, AND LEFT JENNA WITH HER FATHER A MONSTER. IF
JENNA DIDNT DO SOMETHING TO HER FATHERS LIKING LIKE CLEAN HER BEDROOM,
SHE KNEW WHAT AWAITED, SHE WOULD BE THRASHED SEVERLY THEN HANDCUFFED
IN HER BEDROOM CLOSET WITH NO RESTROOM PRIVALAGES, NO FOOD,
NOTHING. THE ABUSE BEGAN WHILE JENNA WAS ONLY 2 AND CONTINUED UNTIL
THE DAY SHE PASSED. JENNA WAS COURAGEOUS AND WAS AFFRAID TO ESCAPE,
HER FATHER WOULD TELL HER THAT SHE WOULD NOT BE BELIEVED AND THAT THEY
WOULD ONLY TAKE HER AWAY TO A PLACE MORE HORRIBLE THEN WHERE SHE
LIVED. JENNA BROKE DOWN, AND COULD NOT HANDLE THE ABUSE ANY LONGER. ON
THE DAY AFTER HER NINTH BIRTHDAY, SHE TOOK AN OVERDOSE OF PRESCRIPTION
MEDICINE HER FATHER HAD, SHE WENT TO SLEEP AND NEVER WOKE UP.~IF YOU
FEEL A CONNECTION TO JENNA THEN YOU SHOULD BID, YOU COULD BE THE ONE
DESTINED TO WATCH OVER HER AND KEEP HER SAFE FROM HARM!~ PHYSICAL
APPEARANCE: JENNA IS A PORCELAIN DOLL, HER HEAD, ARMS AND LEGS ARE
PORCELAIN, HER BODY IS CLOTHE. SHE MEASURES APPROX 16" TALL. ~
pAYMENT: I WILL ONLY ACCEPT PAYPAL NO EXCEPTIONS!! iF YOU HAVE A
FEEDBACK OF LESS THAN TEN I WILL CANCEL YOUR BID, IF YOU BID AS THE
ITEM IS GOING OFF I WILL OFFER A SECOND CHANCE OFFER TO THE BACK UP
BIDDER OR RELIST THE ITEM! iF you have any questions feel free to
email me, and i will answer your questions as best as i can. *EMAILS
OF AN INAPPROPRIATE MANOR WILL BE IGNORED OR REPORTED TO EBAY, SO DONT
WASTE YOUR TIME OR MINE WRITING THEM!*These dolls and their spirit
hosts do not perform on command, they are the vessel of live spirits,
from someone who lived and attached their spirits with the doll for
some reason or another. I do not know ALL the life history of these
spirits that are attached to these dolls,(but I am slowly learning on
some) I only know a name my grandmother had given each of them, and my
person experience with each of them. I explain my experiences with
each of the dolls' spirits, that does not mean that you will
experience the same, it matters how you connect with the doll and
their spirits hosts. On some of my dolls I have my Aunt Celeste whose a
medium/clarovoyant read the dolls. My dolls are not "evil", some have
more attitude than others, they have their own unique personality,
because they were all living, breathing individuals at one time or
another. Due to the fact that paranormal item or items are involved in
this sale, I am "forced" by Ebay's rules and regulations to make the
following statement: this is for entertainment purposes only; we
cannot be responsible for any activity which may or may not be
associated with this sale. You must be 18 years old to bid. YOU HAVE
THE OPTION OF SHIPPING INSURANCE, HOWEVER I WILL NOT BE HELD
RESPONSIBLE FOR LOSS OR DAMAGE THROUGH THE POST OFFICE! THANK YOU FOR
VISITING AND HAPPY BIDDING

Reposting:

Somehow this made the Deseret News, but I believe it'd be a dream for some. :P

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/705316665/Man-kidnapped-force-fed-beer.html

Man kidnapped, force-fed beer

Published: Monday, July 13, 2009 4:18 p.m. MDT

A possible case of mistaken identity got a man kidnapped, force-fed beer and
dumped on the side of the road, police said.

A passer-by found the man walking across Legacy Highway near Centerville about
9 a.m. Saturday. His hands were tied with hanger wire. He said he'd been
kidnapped three hours earlier, said Salt Lake Police Sgt. Dennis McGowan.

He told police he had parked his car about 6 a.m. at his home near 1700 West
and 400 North when two Spanish-speaking men dragged him out into the driveway.
Once he'd been thrown inside their red pickup truck, he said they pulled a bag
over his head, tied his hands and feet with coat hanger wire and put a gun to
his stomach.

"They told him this was their area and that he can't sell drugs here," McGowan
said. The man fervently denied that he has or sells any drugs.

The kidnappers force-fed him two cans of beer before kicking him out of the
truck and driving off, very likely to pass him off as a drunk whose kidnapping
story would be written off as nonsense, McGowan said. He had managed to kick
off his leg constraints and cross the highway looking for help when the
passer-by found him.

Officers found two empty beer cans and mangled wire hanger by the side of the
highway that seem to confirm the man's account, McGowan said.
Story continues below

The man, whose name and age were not available, was not seriously injured.

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09150/973907-455.stm

Orie aide accused of soliciting teen for 'furry' sex
State senator known for tough stance on sex crimes

Saturday, May 30, 2009 By Tracie Mauriello, Post-Gazette Harrisburg
Bureau Alan David Berlin

HARRISBURG -- An aide to a McCandless state senator known for her
tough stance on sex crimes was arrested late Thursday on accusations
he propositioned a 15-year-old over the Internet.

In a series of instant messages and online chats, Alan David Berlin,
40, of Carlisle, discussed dressing up in animal costumes and engaging
in various sex acts with the boy, the state attorney general's office
said yesterday.

His boss, state Sen. Jane Orie, said she was "shocked and appalled"
Thursday when she learned of the charges and immediately suspended
Mr. Berlin without pay or benefits. She fired him yesterday.

According to the criminal complaint, Mr. Berlin proposed traveling to
the boy's home in Harrisburg, about 20 miles from Carlisle, and having
sex in the backyard and in a shed on his parents' property. He also
allegedly offered to arrange a meeting in a hotel room so Mr. Berlin
could take photos of the boy and another adult having sex.

The online communication took place on seven different days between
April 27 and May 25, according to the criminal
complaint. Investigators say some of the messages originated from a
Senate computer.

Investigators believe Mr. Berlin and the boy met on an Internet site
for "furries," an online community of people who adopt half-animal,
half-human personas.

In one message, according to the complaint, Mr. Berlin requested
pictures of the boy and wrote, "When will your folks be out?"

Other messages describe various sex acts in explicit detail and refer
to "yiffing," which is a "furry" term for having sex.

Mr. Berlin used the screen name "alan_panda_bear" in his messages. He
also used that name for an online personal ad that depicts cartoonish
panda bears, one wearing a diaper.

"I'm a Daddyfur and Caretaker and I am looking for a babyfur to be my
mate and my companion in a long-term committed relationship," the ad
says. "I am a hopeless romantic and very affectionate, freely giving
hugs, scritches, cuddles and kisses."

According to the ad, he wanted someone 20 to 25, who has a car and
would call him Daddy.

The victim and Mr. Berlin had planned to meet Tuesday night near the
boy's house, but Mr. Berlin never showed up, said Nils Fredricksen,
spokesman for Attorney General Tom Corbett.

Mr. Berlin had worked for the state Senate since 1993, most recently
as a $57,000-a-year aide to Ms. Orie, who has been the force behind
efforts to strengthen the state's sexual predator laws. One proposal
called for repeat offenders to wear tracking devices after they had
completed their sentences.

Mr. Berlin didn't work on crime legislation, but dealt with grants and
budgetary issues, said Mike Sarfert, the senator's chief counsel.

Mr. Sarfert said investigators confiscated a hard drive from the
Capitol office.

The investigation began Tuesday after the boy's parents discovered the
computer messages and contacted the Attorney General's Child Predator
Unit.

"These parents did the right thing," Mr. Fredriksen said. "They
monitored their kids' activity and when they saw something they were
concerned about they didn't hesitate to pick up the phone. Forty-eight
hours later [Mr. Berlin] was in handcuffs."

Investigators are looking at the contents of hard drives on
Mr. Berlin's home and work computers. Additional charges are possible,
Mr. Frederiksen said.

There are no indications other children were involved, he said.

Mr. Berlin is charged with unlawful contact with a minor related to
involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, a first-degree felony
punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $25,000 fine. He also is
charged with three second-degree felonies and two third-degree
felonies.

He was arraigned yesterday before Harrisburg District Justice George
A. Zozos and placed in Dauphin County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.

A search of Pennsylvania criminal records turned up no prior arrests.

Mr. Corbett asked parents to monitor children's Internet use,
particularly in the coming months.

"Predators know that more young people will be online during the
summer and many will be home alone for long periods of time, so it is
important for parents to take steps now to be certain their kids are
prepared and protected," he said. "Internet safety is something that
should be regularly discussed by every family ... because predators
are online every day looking for kids who are lonely or vulnerable."

I'm not sure whether this is a cautionary tale about injecting drugs or
eating at Denny's, or both.

Man Attempts To Amputate Own Arm In Denny's

MODESTO - (CBS13/AP) - Modesto police say a local man who tried to cut
off his own arm at a Denny's restaurant thought he had injected air into
one of his veins while shooting cocaine and would die unless he took
drastic action.

The man, identified by police as Michael Lasiter, 33, rushed into the
restaurant on Friday night and started stabbing himself in the right arm
with a butter knife he grabbed from a customer's table, police say. When
that knife didn't work, Lasiter allegedly took a butcher knife from the
kitchen and dug it into his arm.

Lasiter, who was subdued with a taser and taken to a local hospital with
severe cuts, told officers he thought he needed to amputate his arm to
keep himself from dying from the cocaine injection, says Modesto police
Sgt. Brian Findlen.

The Denny's closed for the night after the incident.

http://cbs13.com/local/dennys.amputation.cocaine.2.807272.html

Vets worked to save the fallen horses, administering intravenous fluids
and trying to aid their breathing while bystanders sprayed water mist over them
to help cool them.

But their efforts proved futile. Fourteen of the horses died Sunday; another
seven have died since, according to Dr. Scott Swerdlin of the Palm Beach Equine
Club, a consulting veterinarian for the event. "Some died right away,"
Swerdlin told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "Others lasted about 45 minutes."

....

Anyone could have done the same
thing," Bart told The Local.

The library is reviewing its policy for lending sensitive material, but that
isn't enough for child protection groups who plan to report the library for
possession and distribution of child pornography.

"We want the report to demonstrate that the same laws apply for all regardless
of whether it is a state institution," said Brigitta Holmberg, a spokeswoman
for the Association of Relatives to Sexually-abused Children.

B) 2009 United Press International, Inc.

Gee, you'd think that if they can do the US could do it

http://www.reuters.com/article/oddlyEnoughNews/idUSTRE53786J20090409?feedType=R
SS&feedName=oddlyEnoughNews&rpc=69

Congo forces politicians to pay their taxes

Thu Apr 9, 2009 9:44am EDT

1 of 1

Full Size

By Joe Bavier

KINSHASA (Reuters) - Democratic Republic of Congo has begun to collect at
source income taxes which even some of its top politicians were failing to pay,
to help combat a deepening fiscal crisis, the budget minister said on Tuesday.

Resource-rich but impoverished Congo has seen income from mineral exports, its
primary foreign currency earner, plummet since mid-2008 as demand for its
copper and cobalt has dried up due to the global economic downturn.

Amid a growing budget shortfall, the government is under pressure to cut costs
and boost tax revenues.

Budget Minister Michel Lokola told Reuters that last month's decision to tax
government salaries at source, rather than rely on employees to pay taxes after
receiving their salaries, had already raised roughly $1 million.

"They just weren't paying. The government ministers we replaced, the MPs, the
senators, they didn't pay," said Lokola, who entered the government last
October in a cabinet shake-up that saw his predecessor Adolphe Muzito named
prime minister.

Lokola said the move was partly aimed at setting a good example, adding that
Congolese President Joseph Kabila's government salary was also subject to the
measure.

"He is aware of this, and he approves of it ... I don't see how we can expect
the private sector to pay their taxes if we don't pay ourselves," he said.

The decision was applauded by residents of Kinshasa, the country's sprawling
riverside capital.

"I think it's necessary. Everyone used to pay their taxes, but for a while now,
people don't pay anymore," said one government employee who asked not to be
named.

Tax evasion is rampant in Congo and is seen by many as vital to their economic
survival.

A convoluted tax system, used by employees of state agencies to help supplement
salaries often received months late if at all, has helped make Congo the
world's worst country in which to do business, according to a World Bank report
last September.

The study found that medium-sized businesses that fully complied with the
demands of state agencies would pay an average of 32 different taxes,
theoretically consuming around 230 percent of their profits.

(Editing by Daniel Magnowski and Andrew Roche)

B) Thomson Reuters 2009 All rights reserved

Brazilian wax ban in New Jersey is scrapped

Garden State officials on Friday scrapped plans for a ban on "Brazilian" bikini
waxes.

The ban was being considered by the state's Board of Cosmetology and
Hairstyling because two women had been hospitalized in the last year for
infections following a bare-it-all Brazilian-style treatment.

But in a letter to the board on Friday, New Jersey Consumer Affairs Director
David Szuchman wrote: "I cannot agree to the complete prohibition ... banning
removal of hair in the genital area."

For the uninitiated, a Brazilian-style bikini wax involves the full removal of
hair from what can euphemistically be called the "bikini region." Jeannette
Abou-Mourad, owner of Sisters Skin Care and Waxing on Michigan Avenue,
explained that despite its South American name the practice began thousands of
years ago in the Middle East, a tradition considered routine and hygienic.

"It's pure cleanliness," she said. "It began in the Middle East, then traveled
to Brazil and around other parts of the world before it wound up in America."

Salon owners in New Jersey cried out when they heard about the potential ban,
fearing the economic impact it might have with bikini season on the horizon.

Szuchman, in his letter to the cosmetology board, wrote that he believes there
are "alternate means to address any public health issues" and he encouraged the
board to begin a review of the training needed to safely provide Brazilian
bikini waxes.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/features/custom/fashion/chi-talk-bikiniwax-
0321mar21,0,7981868.story

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. -- Some apparent sexual experimentation landed a
southern Maryland woman in a hospital with injuries tough to imagine and
even more difficult to forget.

Maryland State Police airlifted the 27-year-old woman to Prince George's
County Hospital Center early Sunday morning after she was injured in an
incident involving a sex toy attached to a saber saw blade,
TheBayNet.com reported.

The man who called 911 about the incident admitted attaching the sex toy
to the saw and then using the high-powered, homemade device on his
partner, WUSA confirmed with St. Mary's County public safety sources.

The saw cut through the plastic toy and wounded the woman, according to
TheBayNet.com. The injuries were severe enough for medevac, but the
woman's condition at this time is unknown.

Whether the act was consensual or accidental likely will be investigated
by the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office, WUSA reported

http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Woman-Severely-Injured-in-Sex-Toy
Power-Tool-Encounter.html

(Bleys/59363) Best News Retraction Ever.

Best News Retraction Ever.

UPDATE: The Huffington Post has learned that the below video has been
doctored.
We regret the error and apologize to Mr. Gibson. John Gibson never compared
Eric Holder to a monkey with a bright blue scrotum.

Rather, as seen in the unedited video below, Gibson played audio of Holder
saying "nation of cowards" -- so his full, unedited remarks were:

"We were talking about Eric Holder today on the radio and his comment that
this
is a nation of cowards."

The video was doctored to include Trace Gallagher's voice saying, "bright blue
scrotum" where Gibson played Holder's "nation of cowards" remark. The
Huffington Post does not know the source of the video's doctoring . it was
picked up off TVNewser.

See the unedited video below:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/02/19/john-gibson-compares-
eric_n_168377.htm
l
